Water quality you can prove — every hour, every tank.
Our showcase for what ModbusSudo can do: an online TDS meter talks Modbus over RS-485, ModbusSudo reads it every few seconds, and the SensorLoop IoT Platform shows water quality live against BIS IS 10500 limits — with alerts the moment quality drifts and a daily compliance score for every tank.
- TDS rising · Tank 02
- pH back in range
This use case runs on SensorLoop products — no custom development needed.
From TDS meter to portal in five steps
This is the showcase we use to explain ModbusSudo: a real sensor, a standard Modbus connection and a live dashboard your team can act on.
- STEP 01
TDS meter in the line
An online TDS / conductivity sensor sits on the RO outlet or tank. Its transmitter measures TDS, EC and temperature continuously.
- STEP 02
Modbus over RS-485
The transmitter exposes its readings as Modbus RTU registers on a two-wire RS-485 bus. pH, flow and level transmitters can share the same bus.
- STEP 03
ModbusSudo reads it
ModbusSudo polls each device every few seconds, timestamps the values and buffers them locally if the network drops.
- STEP 04
Secure upload
Readings go to the SensorLoop cloud over WiFi, Ethernet or 4G with encrypted transmission.
- STEP 05
Live on the portal
The SensorLoop IoT Platform shows each tank live, checks every reading against your limits and sends WhatsApp, SMS or email alerts.
What the operator sees
On a phone, laptop or control-room TV — in plain words, not register numbers.
- A tile per tank, e.g. "Tank 01 TDS", with the live value and colour band
- TDS, pH, EC, temperature and flow updating every few seconds
- 24-hour trends with the BIS acceptable and permissible limit lines
- Today's compliance % — share of the day the tank stayed within limits
- Alert history with acknowledge / clear, plus PDF and Excel reports
Everything your team needs to watch
Values are read directly from your meters, sensors and controllers, labelled in plain language and shown with the right units.
TDS
Total dissolved solids in mg/L (ppm)
pH
Acidity / alkalinity of treated or raw water
Conductivity (EC)
µS/cm, closely linked to TDS

Insights & analysis
The platform analyses your data continuously and points out what deserves attention.
- Track RO membrane performance from slow TDS drift
- Compare raw and treated water quality side by side
- Spot dosing problems from pH swings
- Find leaks and overflows from level and flow patterns
- See which tanks or sites fail limits most often
What connects
ModbusSudo works with the equipment you already have. Typical devices in this use case:
- Online TDS / conductivity sensors with RS-485 or 4–20 mA output
- Online pH sensors and transmitters
- Electromagnetic and ultrasonic flow meters with Modbus or pulse output
- Ultrasonic or pressure-type level transmitters
Limits from BIS IS 10500 built in
Drinking water in India is judged against IS 10500. SensorLoop shows these limits on your dashboard by default — and you can set stricter limits for your own process.
TDS — acceptable 500 mg/L
Up to 500 mg/L is the acceptable limit. Above it, the dashboard flags the reading and sends an alert.
TDS — permissible 2,000 mg/L
Up to 2,000 mg/L is permissible only in the absence of an alternate source. Readings in this band are shown as a warning.
pH — 6.5 to 8.5
pH outside 6.5–8.5 is outside the acceptable range and raises an alert immediately.
Your own process limits
Pharma purified water, boiler feed or ETP discharge often need tighter limits. Set custom min/max per tank.
Water Quality (TDS) Monitoring: common questions
Which TDS and pH sensors do you support?+
Any online sensor or transmitter with Modbus RTU (RS-485) or a 4–20 mA output. We can also supply suitable sensors if you don't have them yet.
Can I set limits stricter than BIS?+
Yes. BIS IS 10500 limits are the default. You can set custom TDS bands, pH range and min/max for any parameter, per tank.
Does it work for ETP and STP outlets?+
Yes. pH, TDS, flow and level are monitored the same way. Limits are set as per your consent conditions.
We have tanks at multiple sites. One login?+
Yes. Every tank and site appears under one customer login, with an overview of all of them and drill-down to each one.
